There is a way to spawn random companions thru the console. However they all spawn with 0 skills 0 attributes, so you also have to add skills/atts to them. Bit of a hassle, and I can't remember the exact command to spawn companions but its in there, built my party that way.

with the developer console mod you can set your skill to whatever number you want by using console commands. that might probably help. Do you, by any chance, know the command for this? I reinstalled the mod but cannot for the life of me find the correct command to change a skill. campaign.set_skill_main_hero skillname number
